Towards Beautiful Eyes -- Solutions for Thinning Lashes and Dark Patches

"My eyes are an ocean in which my dreams are reflected," says Anna M. Uhlich. You can hardly pay a richer tribute to your eyes! Indeed, your eyes are capable of performing many significant functions. A beautiful pair of eyes is a rare boon, and all of us yearn to possess them.

Eye Problems Show Up as You Age

Women spend fortunes to make their eyes look beautiful and youthful. Despite your best efforts, you will likely eventually be forced to face certain eye problems due to aging. For example, you might begin to feel that your eyebrows and eyelashes are losing their strength and becoming thinner or your eyes may become the victims of dark circles that distract from their appeal.

These problems are a natural process, and you don't have to unnecessarily worry about them. But if you want to try to fight them, we will discuss some of the solutions to these problems and others below.

The Causes of Thinning Eyelashes

Why do eyelashes thin? In most cases, thinning eyelashes are caused by natural factors like aging which weakens hair follicles and make them brittle. Therefore, they lose their strength and are easily broken. In some cases, thinning eyelashes occur as a result of poor diet and maintenance of eyes and the nearby areas. Nutritional deficiencies can cause thinning eyelashes. The thickness and length of your eyelashes is also determined by heredity. Hormonal disturbances and stress can affect growth of your eyelashes. External factors such as hypothyroidism, eye surgery, and continuous exposure to chemicals and toxins can also have detrimental effect on your eyelashes. Prolonged makeup use is another common cause of thinning eyelashes since it can lead to certain types of allergies. Certainly the involuntary habit of pulling the hairs of your eyelashes can deplete their length and thickness.

Deeper Causes of Thinning Eyelashes

Thinning eyelashes can also be the beginning symptoms of a condition called alopecia areata. It is always advisable to consult an eye doctor and seek remedies if you experience a sudden thinning of your eyelashes.

Nevertheless, there are cosmetic or topical preparations available in the market that claim to provide permanent solutions to thinning eyelashes. Constant research is being undertaken by companies to develop suitable products to give you permanent relief. Folligen cream and Emu oil are combined to combat thinning eyelashes. Within a couple of months, you can feel the difference in your eyelashes. Wondering how? Folligen can improve the vitality of hair follicles, and Emu oil is reported to activate 80% of dormant hair follicles and make them grow. A product of Jan Marini Skin Research, Age Intervention Eyelash, also claims to enhance the appearance of eyelashes. This product is mascara that can be used to make your eyelashes appear thicker, longer, and lusher. You can also opt to have false eyelashes fitted, but they can be heavy, uncomfortable, and irritate sensitive skin. The most common and preferred treatment for thinning eyelashes is a continued application of mascara. You need to take care of a few points while applying mascara. The focus should always be on the base of your eyelashes. You should apply it evenly, without putting too much on the tips of the eyelashes. Mascara is highly sought after by older women to add more glitter to their eyes. The contour of the eyes gets a facelift by a proper application of mascara.

Mascara Tips Some women are troubled by the running or smudging of mascara caused by its excessive water content. To avoid this, some companies add chemical solvents to absorb excess water.

However, those chemicals will make your eyelashes dry and weak and can increase thinning. If you are already worried about thinning eyelashes, then choosing the right mascara and deciding the appropriate duration of application can be a Herculean task!

The Leading Mascara Brands

Keeping in mind the drawbacks of mascara, there are products developed by companies like Beauty Naturals Ltd that try to avoid using harsh and drying chemicals. * Palladio Herbal Mascara - This product is a unique blend of natural waxes that aid in strengthening and thickening your eyelashes; the other ingredients, like herbs, help tone them up. This product comes in a unique package suitable for contact lens users. * Herbal Thickening Mascara -- This mascara is caters specifically to thinning eyelashes. It comprises ingredients that moisturize, condition, and thicken your thin eyelashes; it contains mostly natural substances like rice wax, chamomile flower extract, green tea leaf extract, and beeswax. * Herbal Lengthening Mascara - This mascara builds the length and thickness of your thin eyelashes. It contains many of the natural ingredients listed for Herbal Thickening Mascara as well as acacia Senegal gum, vitamin E, and xanthum gum.

To draw attention away from your thinning lashes, make sure that your eyes themselves look good. When your eyes look, good people are drawn to them and will not even notice that your lashes may be thin.

Once you perfect the look of your lashes, you may want to minimize dark circles under your eyes as well. Even the most attractive eyes and lashes can be marginalized by the distraction of dark circles.

Dark circles under the eyes tend to increase with age because of issues with the skin and capillaries under the eyes. Additional factors could be an increase in stress and a lack of sleep. It is always a good idea to have a doctor look at chronic problems with thinning lashes and dark circles under the eyes before you seek your own solution. However, these problems are not usually a cause for alarm. There are promising new treatments available to diminish these dark patches under your eyes.

For example, there is a new product called Eyederma(TM), made by a company named Optimal Therapeutics. Eyederma is specially formulated with rich ingredients to lessen dark circles under your eyes without expensive surgery. The company recently reported positive responses to their product from many women.

Eyederma(tm) may be one more tool in your cabinet to help keep you looking more radiant and vibrant, especially around your eyes. This product is a topical eye cream and is easy to apply, in contrast to some other concealers and foundation products. It certainly seems worth looking into and can be found at better online stores like Amazon.com and the BODeStore.com (http://www.BODeStore.com).

Grow Your Eyelashes

I'll begin by reprinting some of the better articles I've found mentioning jan marini and the skin and beauty treatments that her products help with. this is a great article on extending your eyelashes.

There has been a lot of recent buzz regarding growing eyelashes, making them fuller, and much more noticeable. For years, mascara has been the predominant way of making eyelashes thicker and more prominent. Recently, there has been a flood of new interest in other methods of promoting thicker, fuller lashes. New products have come to market, and interest in cosmetic surgery for eyelash thickening is peaking. Do these new topical treatments work? Is cosmetic surgery the only answer to fuller, healthier lashes? Let's cover what is currently out on the market for those wishing to try things other than mascara for more lustrous lashes.

Topical Treatments

New topical solutions have entered the market in an effort to promote healthier eyelash growth at the follicular base at the eyelid margin. The theory is that by nourishing and stimulating the eyelash follicle, extra growth may occur. Keep in mind that eyelash growth is genetically determined, and like hair on the head, its thickness, color, and distribution is determined by familial genes. However, as Rogaine® is used to chemically stimulate hair growth and thicker hair, new eyelash products attempt to do the same thing. Whereas Rogaine® has been scientifically proven to provide results through years of study, these newer products have not been scientifically proven and no truly predictable conclusions can be made about their effectiveness other than personal use and patient testimonials. The initial reviews have been fantastic and it is a fine idea to try these products to see if they work for you first before considering surgical or more invasive options. The leading products are:

LashGro by RevitaLash MD http://www.dermblue.com/displayProducts.asp?criteria=19606

Jan Marini Age Intervention Eyelash http://www.dermblue.com/displayProducts.asp?criteria=19524

Osmotics FNS Nutrilash Lash & Brow Enhancer http://www.dermblue.com/displayProducts.asp?criteria=14272

With limited downside, inexpensive cost, and potential for excellent results, these products are excellent first options for you to achieve your thicker, fuller lashes!

Surgical Treatment

For years, eyelash transplantation was performed for burn / trauma victims who had lost the ability to grow eyelashes secondary to destroyed follicles. The surgery involves taking hairs from an androgen-independent area, such as the nape of the neck, and transplanting single follicles into the eyelid margin. Each hair removed from the neck is prepared microscopically and then inserted individually into the eyelid under local anesthesia. The procedure takes 1-2 hours and the costs can be quite substantial. These new eyelashes grow much like the hair on the back of the neck, and must be trimmed regularly as one would do for a haircut. Keep in mind that whatever type of hair you have on your head (thick, thin, curly, kinky) will also grow similarly from your eyelid. Please visit your plastic surgeon for a formal consultation to determine if this procedure is right for you.
